Stolen Mail

We don't get much mail, since our residence is in Florida. The mail that does arrive is all for the park - the water bill, the electric bill and the mortgage.

One particular week Jim was expecting mail from both Ellen and Steve. Neither piece ever arrived, and both envelopes had important contents. The loss of both required effort at the originating person. Steve had sent a check to buy homes, which required a stop payment and reissue. Ellen had sent a Florida title for signature, which required getting a new lien release and title in order to do the transfer.

Since neither of these expected items arrived, Jim was alerted to the fact that someone had taken his mail. He immediately went to the Post Office to report it, and was referred to the Troy Police Department. He filed a report, but did not leave with the feeling that this would be pursued. (Apparently it is no longer a huge offense to steal mail.)

Arrow Woods has three streets, each with rural mailboxes at the end. The mail gets delivered to these. Our future plan, when cash allows, is to buy locking boxes that will be housed at the office. We will eventually remove the current boxes, both for mail security and to pursue the expansion of Arrow Woods.

As a temporary solution to our own problem, the mail carrier agreed to deliver our mail to a new locking mailbox in front of the office.

We are considering placing a park model on a corner lot that is very small, if we can buy one at a reasonable price, and having that be a new office. (Our current office is in a very old mobile home that is not worth keeping.) If we do this, there will be plenty of space for the mailboxes at the office. This will undoubtedly make the residents happier than the current placement of mailboxes.
