Mailboxes
Our mailboxes are here and have now been installed. We are waiting for the Postmaster to come install their locks in them, and should be able to start using them Friday. These boxes were definitely not cheap! The cost for 75 units was slightly over $2,800 for the boxes alone. Jim built a 3-sided building to put them in with enough room for the delivery person and residents to get under a roof in case of rain. The building is made from lumber and metal. We also plan to put a couple of bulletin boards inside the building.
Next weekend we will remove the unsightly rural boxes we have at the end of each of our roads. (They are unsightly because most are bent, missing doors, etc.) Our hope is that some of the traffic will be cut down because people no longer have a reason to drive to the end of the road. The roads are wide enough that they can turn around at their own home. It also takes care of the mail-theft problem, although that has not happened since evicting some of the prior tenants.
We have put the mailboxes on a small lot where we also intend to put a new office trailer. We are working on acquiring that currently. The lot is one of the smallest in the park, and moving the office will enable us to use the lot currently occupied by the office as a storage facility and then get the old home we are currently using for storage out of the community.
We are constantly working at making the community as a whole look nicer, and to that end have sent letters to two tenants this week about cleaning up their individual lots. These are both tenants who were here when we arrived, so the possibility exists that they will ignore our request. If this happens we will be forced to issue violations in preparation for possible eviction. Although this is not our desired conclusion, we are fully prepared to do it if necessary.
