Pine Trees and Water Lines

We had been looking at a row of pine trees, knowing they were planted by someone along the water lines in one area of the park. We had been discussing getting them cut down, knowing the real issue was that the overhead electric lines ran in the same place and these trees were too close to them. The issue was expense.

We obviously waited too long, since one of the water pipes was broken (see the previous post)and created a huge leak. It was pretty amazing to see the PVC line when they took it out of the hole because it had several curves in it caused by the pine roots. One of those curves finally could take no more, thus the break.

We knew we had no more time and these trees needed to be cut during the winter. We were VERY lucky, however: the electric company had scheduled tree maintenance in our area! The company that contracts with them drove in one day and told me they were going to trim the trees. I, of course, told them they could cut them completely down. They called the electric company and got approval to do just that because they were within 15 feet of the electric lines! We actually got them to take down two other pine trees in other areas as well because of the same reason.

The broken water line was bad, and the water bill that month was pretty high. It was not anywhere near as high as the expense would have been for us to have those trees cut and removed from the property, however.
