The Halloween Party
We had our first organized event at Butler Creek on Halloween night. It was a huge success! We had over 100 residents attend the party, both adults and children. We purchased $5 gift cards for the costume parade winners, and did awards by age group. After the parade, we had games for the children to play.
The teenagers were divided into two teams and had a scavenger hunt. Some items were "planted" for them to find, such as a black rose, plywood wrapped in aluminum foil skeleton key, rubber tarantulas, etc. We gave them maps of the park and told them the rules said they must be on foot. We had items in every direction of the park, covering all 90 acres for them to find! They were also told they must return by 9 pm.
The girls team won the contest, and they are having a pizza party for their efforts. They agreed that the boys team could also be invited, so all are being rewarded for their efforts.
It was interesting, one of the items was to take a picture of the pumpkin with purple hair that one of the residents had on display. The girls did not take the chance that the boys would get their picture - they actually knocked on the door and asked if they could take the pumpkin and were told yes! (They returned it after the game, too!)
The other highlight of the night was the hayride. We put bales of hay on the utility trailer and pulled it by pickup truck around the park. Some of them went on more than one ride!
Everyone had a great time. Our next organized function will be a potluck dinner on the Saturday before Thanksgiving with the park providing the turkey. We are looking forward to an event every month.
