The clean up begins ....

There is always a significant amount of clean up necessary in a turn around park . The clean up needed varies by park, some of the things you’ll encounter, but by far not an all inclusive list
are :

* Abandoned cars.
* Old appliances, behind or alongside the home.
* Trash and debris around homes.
* People dumping unwanted items on vacant lots.
* Abandoned homes / lot and home trashed.
* Ugly old dumpsters.
* Unsightly homes / in disrepair.
* Overgrown lots.
* Roads in disrepair.
* Common area’s overgrown.
* Home’s missing skirting.
* Homes in need of power washing, heavy mold and dirt.

All of these issues need to be addressed, and by no means can they be corrected overnight, anyone who has been involved in a turn around park knows first hand how much of an impact this part of the process means to the over all project.

To take one example, in some cases what we think will be a quick fix is not always easy to correct. I wanted the 14 dumpsters we had the park removed and replaced with individual cans. Our dumpster’s were always over flowing with trash, due to the fact people in the surrounding neighborhoods used our dumpsters as free trash service for themselves. Upon my request to the city, they refused to replace them based on their belief that what we had was good enough, remember we’re just a trailer park.

I could very easily turn this into a very lengthy story, but I won’t, it took 4 months to finally receive individual trash cans for our resident’s. Through a number of unusual circumstances we were able to put enough pressure on the city for them to agree to give us what we wanted. The improvement was dramatic and well worth the effort. The importance of clean up to the project can not be stressed enough, it has a huge impact on how your resident’s and the surrounding community feel about your park. In the long run it will greatly help with your efforts to bring new resident’s into the park.

Clean up, to be continued…
