Cable Thieves ...
Recently we had a situation at the mobile home park where a resident late in the evening would steal cable TV service from another resident. About 9-10 pm in the evening they would go to a neighbors cable box, unhook the cable and reconnect it to their own home. On the second night the resident whose cable was being stolen looked out the back window as soon as the picture on the TV screen went blank and saw the neighbor pulling the cable over to his home and proceed to hook it up. On both occasions the cable company was notified on the night of the incident.
The Monday following the weekend, upon being made aware of the problem I called the cable company and had them come out to verify that every connection from the cable boxes to each home was a valid paying customer. I then requested that anytime a resident in the park was caught with cable service and was not a paying customer that I be given formal notification so that I could deal with the situation.
The next step I took was to create a letter to distribute to all residents stating that the ownership of the park considered stealing cable service a violation of the park rules and that any resident caught doing so would be evicted from the park. I made sure that everyone understood that I would be receiving reports from the cable company anytime someone was caught stealing cable and that upon receiving this information I would move forward with the eviction process.
I try to address all issues as promptly as I possibly can, sometimes these things are addressed in the Park rules, other issues may fall with in a grey area of the rules, that’s when I make sure I get a notice out to all residents immediately, as well as adding it
to the park rules. Remember you must constantly be training residents what is and
is not acceptable in order to create a better community.
