First Neighborhood Watch Meeting ....

We held our organizational meeting for the Neighborhood Watch program we are implementing within the park. We had about thirty percent of the residents show up for the meeting which was more than I anticipated. I’m not as interested in the number of people as I am in the fact that we have a good percentage of residents who want to participate in making our community a safer place for their families to live as well as their neighbors who live there. More people will come on board as the meetings continue.

I’m excited about the implementation of this program, it brings with it not only the obvious benefits most of us think of when we hear the words neighborhood watch program, but it also makes people think of more than just themselves. That kind of thinking goes far beyond the program itself.

Through the meetings residents start meeting neighbors for the first time and make new friends, they soon come to realize they can achieve more working together than alone. By watching out for one another’s children, homes and personal property everyone benefits. With this new found understanding they slowly become a community of concerned residents instead of a handful of concerned residents, working together to make their community a safer place for all.
