The price of copper...
Recently we had a robbery in the park, what the thieves wanted was copper wiring. In our area the price of copper is currently $ 2.00 a pound which makes it a viable source for the drug addicts to steal to help support their habit. What the druggies do is break into a home or mobile home that is currently unoccupied, break a hole in the wall near a receptacle, cut the wire and proceed to pull the wire through the sheetrock or wall board from one outlet to the next from room to room destroying the home in the process. They then take the wire to a salvage company of some sort and sell it.
In our case one of our residents knowing the home was empty thought he saw some movement in or around the home and walked outside to get a better look, causing the criminals to scatter.
Although there’s a lot of damage we are sure we can put it back together again. Of course we had to go to plan B meaning our original estimate to remodel this home has obviously increased as well as the time Rick our rehabber needs to complete the remodel.
With all the hard work we have done to remove problem people from our community you will still have a problem from time to time, this is the first of this type incident in almost 2 years. I am very optimistic that as we further develope our community there will be less and less of these type problems.
