The Town Meeting

During the course of turning the park around I have had many challenges, one of the most difficult has been the drug issue. The reason it has been so difficult is because the city drug unit has been very slow to respond, at times it has felt as though the drug unit did not actually exist. We are not an isolated example, so many of the business owners complained that a town meeting was scheduled and held on our side of town.In attendance were the chief of police, sector leiutenant, chief of the drug unit, the county commissioner and many others.

On my drive to the meeting I made the decision to be the squeaky wheel, I was very frustrated with the lack of response and watching day after day as drugs were delivered to the park and sold from the one home. I was determined I was going to get someone’s attention and get some results.

Throughout the meeting I made sure to present facts to prove my point and provide meaningful information that the drug unit could use to do their job and apprehend the criminals. Throughout the meeting I presented a theme showing the lack of response by the drug unit backed up by phone calls I had made and reports containing license numbers and other specific details that should have been used for investigations.

Due to the information I presented as well as other attendees and the fact that two camera crews and a reporter from the local paper was there along with the two interviews I gave after the meeting, I was approached by the head of the drug squad. He promised to have an agent out at the park to meet with me the following Monday to gather information and get to the bottom of the problem.
